What Are the Main Catholic Prayers?

We’ve prepared a list of the most important Catholic prayers — daily prayers for every Christian, which can be grouped into different categories. These prayers are often used by the Church in specific moments such as ecumenical services, religious gatherings in the name of Christ, personal prayer time, spiritual retreats, and any other occasion that brings us closer to God.

The Main Catholic Prayers Dedicated to the Holy Trinity

We believe there is only one God, who exists in three persons, as written in 1 John 5:7-8:
“For there are three that testify in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one.”

The Holy Trinity: One complete and eternal God.

The mystery of the Holy Trinity is the central mystery of the Christian faith and life. God reveals Himself as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. It was Christ Himself who revealed this truth to us. He spoke of the Father, of the Holy Spirit, and of Himself as God. Therefore, it is not a man-made idea, but a divine truth revealed by Jesus through His teachings to the Holy Apostles.

Below are the main Catholic prayers addressed to the Holy Trinity:

  1. Sign of the Cross
    By the sign of the Holy Cross, deliver us, Lord our God, from our enemies.
    In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
  2. Glory Be
    Glory be to the Father,
    and to the Son,
    and to the Holy Spirit.
    As it was in the beginning,
    is now, and ever shall be,
    world without end. Amen.
  3. Act of Faith
    My God, I firmly believe in all the truths You have revealed and that You teach through Your Church, for You can neither deceive nor be deceived.
  4. Act of Hope
    My God, I hope with firm confidence that, through the merits of Jesus Christ, You will grant me Your grace in this life and everlasting happiness in the next, because You have promised it and You are always faithful to Your promises.
  5. Act of Charity
    My God, I love You with all my heart and above all things, because You are infinitely good and worthy of all love. With Your grace, I promise to love my neighbor as myself for love of You.
  6. Act of Contrition
    My Jesus, my good Jesus, who died on the cross for me, forgive my sins. I no longer wish to offend You. Amen.
  7. Our Father
    Our Father, who art in Heaven,
    hallowed be Thy name.
    Thy Kingdom come.
    Thy will be done,
    on earth as it is in Heaven.
    Give us this day our daily bread.
    And forgive us our trespasses,
    as we forgive those who trespass against us.
    And lead us not into temptation,
    but deliver us from evil. Amen.
  8. Apostles’ Creed
    I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
    Creator of Heaven and earth;
    and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord,
    who was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit,
    born of the Virgin Mary,
    suffered under Pontius Pilate,
    was crucified, died and was buried.
    He descended into hell;
    on the third day He rose again from the dead;
    He ascended into Heaven,
    and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
    from there He will come to judge the living and the dead.
    I believe in the Holy Spirit,
    the holy Catholic Church,
    the communion of saints,
    the forgiveness of sins,
    the resurrection of the body,
    and life everlasting. Amen.
  9. Prayer to the Holy Spirit
    Come, Holy Spirit,
    fill the hearts of Your faithful
    and kindle in them the fire of Your love.
    Send forth Your Spirit and they shall be created.
    And You shall renew the face of the earth. Let us pray: O God, who instructed the hearts of the faithful by the light of the Holy Spirit, grant that by the same Spirit we may be truly wise and ever enjoy His consolations. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
